The National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) announced four new appointments to its Board of Directors, including NJPSA Board Member Angelina Martino Finnegan. Her three-year term representing Zone 2 will begin on August 1, 2017.

Angelina is the principal of Lake Hiawatha Elementary School and previously served as principal of Rockaway Meadows School and Troy Hills School — all in the Parsippany-Troy Hills School District. She has served on the NJPSA Board of Directors since 2006 and was the association’s president in 2010-2011. In 2013, she was named the NJPSA Visionary Principal of the Year and NAESP National Distinguished Principal.

Angelina has been a member of NAESP since 1998 and has served on several committees, including the Resolutions Committee, the Credentials Committee, the Election Audit Board, and the Professional Faculty Committee. For six years, she has served as the NJPSA representative to NAESP and regularly attends the NAESP Convention as well as the Northeast Conference, which provides leaders in Zones 1 and 2 with the opportunity to collaborate and share ideas and resources.

NJPSA Executive Director Pat Wright congratulated Angelina on her appointment and said that NAESP could not have made a better choice for this vital post. “I am fortunate to have worked with Angelina for many years, and I know that I can always count on her intelligence, drive, and commitment to get the job done. Her passion for education is contagious and inspiring, and her interpersonal skills and keen sense of humor make her a key asset to our organization,” said Wright. “She is an articulate, thoughtful, collaborative, and well-respected school leader, and I have no doubt that these skills, in addition to her long-standing relationships with her colleagues in Zone 2, make her uniquely positioned to take on this new role as Zone Director. I wish her great success.”

The NAESP Board is committed to enhancing the relevance and value of NAESP membership, strengthening collaboration with state affiliates, and shining a spotlight on outstanding principals.
