Governor Proposes New School Funding Formula

On Thursday, December 14, the Senate Education and Budget and Appropriations Committee heard testimony from Commissioner of Education Lucille Davy regarding the proposed school funding formula. This would replace CEIFA with a new system that purports to aim money at each district based on enrollment, with special weights for low-income, special education, English-learning, and other student factors. It then uses a complex formula to set an amount considered "adequate" and the community's ability to bear the cost.
