DOJ, the Ad Council & Futures Without Violence Launch PSA On Kids Exposure to Violence

Futures Without Violence, the Justice Department and the Ad Council are teaming up for a new national public service advertising campaign aimed at showing adults how to best interact with children who are exposed to violence.

The campaign – dubbed Changing Minds – is geared toward adults who regularly interact with children, like teachers, coaches and guidance counselors. The goal is to help those adults provide support to children who have witnessed or experienced traumatic events. Organizers say the campaign is based on brain science that shows that having a caring, consistent adult is one of the biggest predictors of a child’s ability to overcome traumatic experiences.

Former Attorney General Eric Holder and other administration officials will help launch the campaign at the White House October 19. They’ll unveil a PSA on the brain science behind childhood trauma and two short films profiling children who have overcome trauma. Watch them here and here.
