The New Jersey State Board of Education met on Wednesday, June 6th.  During the meeting a Resolution was presented to honor the State Board Outgoing Permanent Student Representative, Karan Chauhan.  Karan has done a wonderful job keeping the Board informed of what is on the minds of students across New Jersey.  Commissioner Repollet commented Karan “has left a remarkable imprint on the Board and myself”.  Mr. Chauhan is sure to be missed, but we are all looking forward to getting to know his successor, a rising senior at Ocean City High School. Three high school students from Parsippany Troy Hills School District gave a compelling presentation about sustainability in schools and research they had conducted in their district about the use of styrofoam and the impact on the environment. Also presenting to the Board on Wednesday were Camden City School District and Jersey City School District, both giving their annual reports.  In addition to approving the State Board’s calendar of meeting dates for next year, and the religious holiday calendar, the Board voted on and approved a new organizational structure for the State Department of Education.  https://www.state.nj.us/education/sboe/meetings/2018/June/public/Organizational Chart.pdf. Next month the Board is scheduled to elect a President and Vice-President of the Board.
