The House of Representatives just announced two major school leader priorities that will be included in their upcoming $3.5 trillion budget reconciliation bill:
- $198 million for School Leader Recruitment and Support
- $82 billion for K-12 school infrastructure
This is excellent news for school leaders and our students. NASSP members have been working in overdrive to ensure that our schools were not left out of this budget — and it’s paid off. But we cannot take our foot off the gas until this bill is signed into law.
This crucial funding will provide grants to improve the recruitment, preparation, placement, support, and retention of effective principals or other school leaders in high-needs schools nationwide. It will also pump much needed investments into fixing or replacing outdated school buildings and improving air ventilation to mitigate COVID transmission.
At a time when school Leaders across the country are facing unprecedented levels of burnout and pressure, educator shortages are negatively impacting our school communities, and many of our buildings are crumbling — timing is of the essence.
