During this hectic budget week, NJPSA reached out to you to assist in our advocacy efforts fighting legislation that would have eliminated a current benefit of NJPSA members in retirement.

Thanks to our collective advocacy, bill sponsor Senator Gordon Johnson (D-37)  today announced his withdrawal of S-4567, the legislation that proposed the elimination of the current IRMAA reimbursement that Medicaid eligible members may apply for annually.  This is a clear victory for active and retired educators who dedicate their professional lives to the education of New Jersey’s students!

Thank you for your advocacy that supported the NJPSA Government Relations team’s lobbying efforts in Trenton!  Your voice was heard!

Advocacy does make a difference!

Senator Johnson released the attached statement announcing the withdrawal:

SENATOR JOHNSON STATEMENT ON THE WITHDRAWAL OF SENATE BILL 4657

TRENTON – Senator Gordon Johnson issued the following statement regarding the withdrawal of S4657, legislation that would have modified reimbursement for certain premium charges under the School Employees’ Health Benefits Program:

“After hearing directly from educators and retirees across the state, including conversations with the Bergen County Education Association and the New Jersey Education Association, I have withdrawn S4657 from consideration.

“When I initially joined as a sponsor, it was part of broader budget discussions. However, as I listened to the concerns of teachers, retirees, and other school employees, and learned more about the impact this bill would have, it became clear that moving forward was not the right course of action.

“I am grateful to the many educators and retirees who reached out to share their perspectives. Their advocacy plays a vital role in shaping better public policy, and I remain committed to working with them to support our schools and the people who make them strong.”
