The party leadership of the incoming Assembly will remain the same. During their respective party caucuses November 5, Assembly Democrats voted to re-elect Vincent Prieto as speaker and Assembly Republicans voted to re-elect Jon Bramnick as their leader.
Assembly Democrats also re-elected Lou Greenwald as majority leader, Jerry Green as Speaker Pro-Tempore, Shavonda Sumter as majority conference leader and Gary Schaer as chairman of the budget committee.
Republicans re-elected Dave Rible as conference leader and Scott Rumana as whip.
Results from Tuesday’s election in the 16th District are still undetermined pending provisional ballots, but regardless of the outcome, Democrats will hold either 51 or 52 of the Assembly’s 80 seats. At 52 seats, it would be the largest Democratic majority since 1979.
