The New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) received 16 requests to open new charter schools during its latest round of applications.
The latest round of charter school applicants will be notified in May if they can advance to the next stage of the process, which will require a more comprehensive application to be submitted. Those applicants will learn in the fall whether they’ve received initial charter approval, with a school opening date set for the 2018-19 academic year.
Below is a list of proposed schools, including the grade levels and maximum number of students each could serve once its programs were built out. Collectively, the 16 applications represent 6,246 new charter seats, though the state typically does not approve all the requests.
