NJPSA President Nicole Moore and Board Member Heather Moran testified before the Senate Select Committee on School Funding Fairness on January 28 at Kingsway Regional School District. The hearing focused on inequities in the way school districts are funded.
President Moore and Board Member Moran provided specific examples of how the under-funding of the school funding formula has impacted students in their district. NJPSA also urged the committee to 1) fund the formula before considering any changes and to 2) move cautiously with any proposed changes to the formula.
Earlier this month the Senate unanimously voted to create a special bipartisan committee to examine the state’s school funding system and to make recommended reforms. The eight-member Select Committee on School Funding Fairness will hold a series of public hearings throughout the state. The first hearing was held at the Kingsway Regional High School in Woolwich.
