The state Senate June 19 confirmed the nomination of Kathy Goldenberg to the state Board of Education, a move that eliminates current vice president Joseph Fisicaro off the board. The Senate did not take action on another nominee, Mary Elizabeth Gazi, who, if confirmed, would replace current board President Mark Biedron.
The Senate voted, 31-3, to confirm Goldenberg. Senate Judiciary Chair Nicholas Scutari said the vote on Gazi was held for further consideration.
“I think some other members (of the caucus) wanted an opportunity to speak to her,” he said, adding that her nomination could be up for a Senate vote on Thursday. “It depends on if the members have an opportunity to meet with her or speak with her.”
