The Governor signed legislation, S-1760/A-4212 (Allen, Ruiz, Turner/Vainieri Huttle, Angelini, Jasey), August 10 which recognizes American Sign Language as a world language for meeting high school graduation requirements.

NJPSA testified on the new law during the legislative review process, indicating that current regulation allows ASL as an acceptable world language.  This legislation merely codifies that requirement in law.

The new law is effective July 1, 2016 for next school year.
