NJDOE Releases FAQs to Support Student Cell Phone and Internet-Enabled Device Policies

Many districts have been anticipating additional guidance to support the implementation of student cell phone and internet-enabled device policies. The New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) has now released a comprehensive set of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), available on the NJDOE Student Digital Wellness webpage.

The FAQs were developed with input from school leaders and education stakeholders from across New Jersey and are intended to help districts address many of the practical questions that arise as local policies are developed and implemented. The resource provides guidance on common topics raised by administrators, educators, families, and community members, making it a valuable reference for policy development, implementation, and stakeholder communication.

In addition to the FAQs, the NJDOE has also published a sample parent letter that districts may adapt to communicate local policy changes and expectations to families.

We encourage members to review these resources and share them with colleagues involved in policy development and implementation. We appreciate the many NJPSA members who contributed their expertise and feedback during the development of these materials, helping to ensure the guidance reflects the practical realities facing New Jersey schools.

As districts work through the implementation of these new requirements, please know that NJPSA will continue to advocate on behalf of school leaders and provide the guidance, resources, and support you need every step of the way. We recognize the significant demands these policy changes place on administrators, and our team remains committed to helping you navigate questions, address challenges, and implement these requirements as smoothly and effectively as possible.
