The New Jersey State Board of Education met virtually on Wednesday, February 1, 2023. At their monthly meeting, the Board celebrated Career and Technical Education Month in New Jersey. The Department of Education presented the Career and Technical Education Landscape in New Jersey to the Board. The State Board also adopted, with amendments, Chapter 28, School Ethics Commission. These rules effectuate the School Ethics Act, which seeks to ensure and preserve public confidence in the integrity of elected and appointed school officials by prescribing the ethical standards by which school officials are to be guided in the conduct of their offices and positions. The Act also created the School Ethics Commission, which is charged with enforcing the Act through a procedure for reviewing complaints and ultimately rendering recommendations to the Commissioner of Education as to the imposition of sanctions when violations are substantiated. At this time, it remains unclear if the March meeting will be in person or virtual. For further information, view the NJDOE website: nj.gov/education.
