The pressures confronting school staff members have never been greater, with a global pandemic, constantly changing public health protocols, a worldwide racial justice movement and other local and world events that have had a profound impact on so many of staff, students and parents. This episode is the first in a 5-part series that will review the importance of proactively addressing the mental health needs and social and emotional wellbeing of school staff members. The series will also provide simple techniques and strategies that can be used immediately by listeners to assess their own needs, support their colleagues, practice self-care and deal with personal loss.
Key topics addressed in this episode include:
- The legal requirements that school districts must address concerning staff member mental health;
- The potential impact on student well-being and productivity if school districts fail to act to address staff mental health; and
- The many positive outcomes that result when employers proactively support their staff members’ mental health needs.
